Dear {{first_name | Supporter}} ,

At Sistah Space our ambition is for every woman of african & caribbean heritage to get the right support when they need it. That’s why as well as running our support services, we are campaigning to change the system - and earlier this year we took our message to Parliament!

In a packed room, full of friends and allies, we shared the findings from our report ‘Hidden: In Plan Sight’ with MP’s like Dawn Butler and Abena Oppong-Asare.

We told them how:

  • More than three-quarters of black women don't report the abuse they experience, even though they want to

  • Almost all black women (97%) lack confidence that reporting would lead to fair treatment

  • And more than two-thirds of black women said when they reported abuse, their experience of the system was negative

Our report findings are shameful but not shocking. But we need everyone to understand the severity of the issue so we can do something about it.

We have created an interactive page on our website so everyone can understand and share what we found in just a few minutes.

Behind these statistics are women who we see every day.

One woman told us - “Social services weaponised my blackness, feeding into racist tropes of emotional aggression.” Another said: “The police have been the ones to let me down the most.”

But throughout the report women told us how throughout their experience, Sistah Space was crucial support for them.

One woman said: “When I found Sistah Space, I finally felt seen.”

That’s why it’s crucial Sistah Space gets this research in front of as many people as possible, and that together we influence this government to make change. Your support can help -  please share our report to help spread our message:

In solidarity,

Djanomi Robinson, Head of Operations and Senior IDVA,

Sistah Space

P.S.  The more people who know the issues black women are facing, the more our movement for change - please forward our report to a loved one today.
